Karunkuruvai rice has immense nutritious value that renders potential health benefits and cures many diseases. It is also known as “Vyagra” in India. Karunkuruvai rice boosts immune system and strengthens the nervous system. It serves as a healthy replacement for normal rice and can be consumed on a daily basis. It is a good source of iron, zinc, and vitamin B6. They also contain a good amount of anthocyanin, a type of antioxidant that protects cells, tissues, vital organs and aids them in their efficient functioning. Karunkuruvai rice is used to cure leprosy, an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae.

Usage:

Karunkuruvai can be soaked before cooking for about an hour. It is cooked by taking rice and water in the ratio 1:3 for three whistles in the pressure cooker. It can be ground to batter for preparing dosa, idly, paniyarram and its flour is used to make puttu. It can be used to make pongal which is a sweet delight.
